Bishop’s Tachbrook School received funding to enable them to build a badly needed school extension. With our competitive tender to design and build the project we were successfully and were selected.
The project involved the construction of a new single storey classroom linking toilets and covered play areas, refurbishing two rooms complete with all services, and carry out below ground drainage and external works including hard and soft landscaping.
The school extension was undertaken in two phases due to being carried out in a live environment. Phase one construction while phase two involved all internal realignment works. Creating bespoke cedar wood tile roof design, along with acoustic ceilings, underfloor water heating and rainwater harvesting.
During the phases we maintained regular communication with all stakeholders, parents, teachers and governors co-ordinating the programme phases of work, taking required classroom activities into account.
Naturally considering the health and safety implications of working with staff and children on site, we involved the school with our activities by installing a webcam. Teachers and pupils could all see what we were doing on site at all times, giving peace of mind while enabling students to experience first hand the construction process. We held seminars during school assemblies and visited individual classes to talk to the students in greater detail.
Because of the collaborative nature of the project, we were able to suggest alternative materials and source similar products from alternative suppliers at a lower cost and approximately 95% of our suppliers were sourced locally and within a 10 mile radius of the project.
Resulting in exceeding the schools expectations, delivering all the specification required, on time and to budget.
